Single-source publishing with Open Source and InDesign
Discussion of single-source publishing workflows built with open source tools, often with an XML or HTML content-management store at the centre, often tends to preclude the preferred traditional print output path of most trade publishers -- Adobe InDesign. It is entirely possible to integrate (semi-elegantly, even) InDesign into such an open source workflow by treating InDesign as an output path rather than the centre of the workflow (as trade publishers have been doing for the past 20 years). This allows one to have the advantages of a single-source workflow built on open source tools while still allowing your current InDesign book designers to get their mitts on the work and do their magic with it.
